Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency

The Agency, in Swansea, was established in 1973 to computerise the 15,000,000 driver and 13,000,000 vehicle records that were hitherto held on paper at 183 separate Local Authorities. Today, the department holds the details of nearly 40,000,000 drivers and 30,000,000 vehicle licences with this figure rising yearly.

The Agency clearly realise that personalised and attractive number plates have become a growth industry, with thousands of motorists now displaying registrations which perhaps represent their initials or advertise their business or profession. Others choose a number which bears an amusing message or simply to disguise the true age of their vehicle.

Unlike the Agency, anyone who is not familiar with the system, or of buying, selling or valuing personalised registrations on the secondary market can face a number of pitfalls and difficulties.

Agency auctions

The Agency regularly hold auctions of registration marks and we actively seek out the best of these on behalf of our clients.

As sponsors of the auction price guide & Car Numbers we automatically attend all number plate auctions so we have excellent knowledge of how they work. We have acquired hundreds of numbers by way of auction for many different clients in the past and saved them a lot of time and certainly a lot of money. You have nothing to lose, if we bid for you we only charge a small booking fee of £20, then if we are successful we will charge a fixed commission of £250. All auctions are now excellently managed by Premier Motor Auctions. The Agency currently have two types of auction. The Custom Marks auction, mainly for lower priced year letter numbers & the Classic Collection, where more select and expensive numbers are sold.
